Clare County Council welcomes €2.9 million allocation for Community Recognition Fund 2023

Clare County Council has welcomed the allocation of €2.9 million under the Community Recognition Fund 2023 from the Department of Rural and Community Development. The Fund aims to support the development of community infrastructure and facilities in recognition of the contribution being made in welcoming and hosting significant numbers of arrivals from Ukraine and other countries.

Expressions of interest are invited from groups across our electoral areas/communities who have links to one or more of the following host locations and who can demonstrate the benefits of the project in that location: Ballyvaughan, Bodyke, Bunratty, Clarecastle, Doolin, Ennis, Flagmount, Kilkee, Killaloe, Kilrush, Lahinch, Liscannor, Lisdoonvarna, Meelick, Newmarket-on-Fergus, and Shannon.

Funding will be provided under two streams:

Stream 1: Small Scale Capital Projects – Grants up to €2,000

The focus of this stream is on provision of funding for the purchase of equipment for local clubs, festivals, community events and organisations. Equipment must be purchased and all costs incurred by 30th September, 2023.

Stream 2: Large Scale Capital Projects – Grants over €2,000

The focus of this stream is on large scale capital projects. Projects should be shovel ready with all planning and other consents in place or at an advanced stage at the time of funding approval. 60% of project costs must be expended by 30th September, 2023, with the project completed in full and all remaining expenditure incurred by 1st October, 2024.

Projects that are eligible for funding under this stream include: development, enhancement or refurbishment of community or cultural facilities; development, enhancement or refurbishment of local sports clubs and facilities; enhancement of school/parish facilities which are open to use by all of the community after school hours; and purchase of transport infrastructure such as community vehicles and bus shelters.

In order to support communities who may wish to apply for funding Clare County Council Rural and Community Development Officers will be facilitating the following walk-in information clinics which will be held across the county at the following locations and times:

The Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council, Cllr Tony O’Brien, welcomed news of the funding, saying: “This funding allocation is very positive news for communities in County Clare who have worked tirelessly to strengthen the sense of belonging for our guests from Ukraine. This fund presents a great opportunity to improve local infrastructure and amenities.”

Pat Dowling, Chief Executive, Clare County Council, said: “I would like to commend the contribution of communities across the county in responding to high levels of new arrivals of Ukrainian beneficiaries and International Protection applicants. I look forward to seeing community projects progressing and being delivered for the benefit of all.”
